FAQs

What is Watch D.O.G.S.?

Watch DOGS is a Dad's program (Dads Of Great Students) designed to support the school by incorporating Dads into the school. Watch DOGS not only serve to help provide safety and security to the school but to also interact with students at all grade levels. Watch DOGS is a program offered to schools through the National Center for Fathering (www.fathers.com).

What is a Watch D.O.G.S responsibility?

A Watch DOGS daily responsibilities will include the following:
  • Assisting with student drop off and pick up.
  • Assisting in the cafeteria with student lunches.
  • Assist the staff by patrolling the school grounds, both inside and outside, throughout the day.
  • Assist teachers with recess (yes, you get to play!)
  • Assist teachers in the classroom by spending time with students. You may help with reading groups, math tutoring, or anything else the teacher needs help with that pertains to students. (you won’t be making copies or cutting out supplies)
  • Hang out with kids during the day, including yours.
Watch DOGS arrive at the school between 730 and 745am and check in at the front office. At that time Watch DOGS receive their official shirt, name tag, and specialized instructions for the day.

Watch DOGS finish their day after student dismissal. Prior to their leaving, Watch DOGS will call or e-mail the next day’s Watch DOG to remind him about his assignment.

What do Watch D.O.G.S. have to do to sign up?

In order to be a Watch DOG at Paris, a dad or father figure must complete the sign up form, complete a brief orientation, select a day to serve and complete a background check on the day they serve (like all volunteers at the school).

How much time does it take for Watch D.O.G.S.?

One day. You pick from any of the available days on the calendar. Arrive at 7:15am and go home at the end of school. That's it.

Does it cost to be a Watch D.O.G.?

The short answer is no. This program has been funded by the PTA. However, if you would like to contribute to the program to help defray the costs (stickers, promotional materials, gifts for the kids, etc) you may do so by writing a check to the Paris Elementary PTA and indicate Watch DOGS on the memo line. All funds will go directly to defray the costs of Watch DOGS.

In addition, all D.O.G.S will be required to wear a Watch D.O.G.S. T-shirt on their DOG day.  Community t-shirts to be shared, washed and returned are available. Dads may also purchase their own t-shirt.
